The City of Madison is a leader in public sector fleet management. Our fleet is critical to our operations, and we are committed to safety, efficiency, and sustainability. We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and dynamic leader who will be charged with continuing our award-winning legacy as Superintendent of the City Fleet Service Division.
Madison has a fleet of over 1,500 pieces of equipment; everything from lawn mowers to fire trucks to police cars to electric vehicles, that are critical to providing service to residents every single day. The Superintendent is responsible for managing everything that entails, including leading the highly skilled team that maintains, repairs, and replaces our fleet. Our focus on sustainability (our fleet is a mix of electric, hybrid electric, biodiesel, and renewable diesel vehicles, including North America’s first electric fire truck) has brought us national recognition and awards.

Under the general direction of the Mayor and the Public Works Team Lead, and in coordination with all other City divisions, the employee functions with a high degree of independence in the development and implementation of assigned programs.
The successful candidate will have strong management skills and a customer service focus. They will understand the industry and what it takes to run an efficient maintenance and repair service. They will be excited to maintain Madison’s leadership in sustainability and committed to supporting a diverse workforce. They will have excellent communication skills and be excited to collaborate with other City agencies.
